Mesh and “stress urinary incontinence”

Damn that estrogen! Women of a certain age have a love hate relationship with estrogen.

Surgery Attorneys

While women may be vocally or secretly thrilled that their “time of the month” is but a memory – nobody is dancing in the street because of their lack of estrogen.

As women’s estrogen levels decline, the muscles controlling urination lose their tone which leads to urinary leakage or stress urinary incontinence.

Although urinary incontinence can and does occur at any age, menopausal and post menopausal women see the most change regarding their urinary health.

Aging is bad enough but now women are starting to wet their pants. Nobody wants adult diapers to be part of their wardrobe.

Vaginal and urinary tissues are sensitive to decreases or deficiency in estrogen. Estrogen helps maintain the tone and strength of the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments and helps keep the vaginal and urethral tissues moist.

Prevent Urine Leakage

To prevent urine leakage, the urethra must close completely. In order for the urethra to close completely, there has got to be a certain degree of elasticity and moisture. When that’s not happening, women may experience an increase in stress urinary continence or the urge to frequently urinate.

When complaining about urinary incontinence to your doctor, he or she may suggest surgical mesh to cure stress urinary incontinence.

Mesh, an implanted medical device under FDA scrutiny, has many problems and severe side effects.
