Signs & Symptoms for Traumatic Brain Injuries
How do you know that a person has a traumatic brain injury?
After a blow or jolt, here are some common side effects and symptoms:

- Headaches or neck pain that won't go away
- Difficulty remembering or making decisions
- Slowness in thinking, speaking, acting, or reading
- Getting lost or easily confused
- Feeling tired all of the time, lack of energy or motivation
- Mood changes without cause
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Light-headed, dizzy, or loss of balance
- Nausea
- Increased sensitivity to lights or sounds
- Blurred vision
- Loss of sense of smell or taste

Children with a brain injury can have the same symptoms as adults but unfortunately are often unable to explain how they feel or what hurts. If your child has any or a combination of these symptoms, seek medical help immediately:
- Listlessness
- Inability to be consoled
- Will not eat or nurse
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Changes in the way the child plays
- Performs differently at school
- Lack of interest in favorite toys or activities
- Loss of new skills, such as toilet training
- Loss of balance
- Vomiting
