The National Football League Players Association is the union that professional football players belong to in the National Football League. The NFLPA really came into power in 1993 when they were officially recognized as a union and negotiated a landmark collective bargaining agreement with the NFL which is effective through 2011.
The NFLPA represents players for wages, hours, and working conditions; ensures the collective bargaining agreement terms are honored; negotiates retirement and insurance benefits; provides assistance to charitable organizations; and enhances/defends the players’ image both on and off the field.
In Pennsylvania, it’s the Philadelphia Eagles and in New York the NY Jets.
The labor union represents the interests of top-tiered hockey players in the American Hockey League is considered to be one of the oldest players unions in professional sports. The main function of the PHPA (Professional Hockey Players Association) is to negotiate and protect various player benefits through collective bargaining. The NHLPA (National Hockey League Players Association) is a labor union whose members play in the National Hockey League (NHL). Its headquarters are in Toronto.
The Professional Lacrosse Players Association is the trade union for the National Lacrosse League’s indoor players. It was founded in 1991.
The MLBPA is the collective bargaining for all current Major League baseball players. The MLBPA may also assist players with grievances and salary arbitration. The MLBPA ensures that stadiums in the United States and at international locales meet safety guidelines. The MLBPA acts as the group licensing agent on behalf of the players.
For over 40 years, the NBPA has consistently promoted the best interests of NBA players both on and off the court by negotiating a collective bargaining agreement, prosecuting a grievance on a player's behalf, or counseling a player on benefits or educational opportunities. The NBPA ensures that the rights of NBA players are protected, and that everything possible is being done to help players maximize their opportunities and achieve their goals on and off the court.
The Major League Soccer Players Union was formed in April 2003 to promote the best interests of all MLS Players. The founding members of the Players Union’s Executive Board included Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Chris Klein, Alexi Lalas and Ben Olsen. The Players Union serves as the exclusive collective bargaining representative for all current players in Major League Soccer.
