Pfizer Drug Causes Paralysis in Clinical Trials

Two separate lawsuits filed in Nigeria claim that Pfizer administered a test antibiotic called Trovan without authorization or parental consent at a field hospital during an outbreak of meningitis, measles, and cholera. Of the 211 affected, 11 died while 181 suffered from deafness, paralysis, brain damage, and blindness.

Pfizer denies the charges and said they received the go ahead from Nigerian authorities prior to administering the drug in 1996. This is the second time a lawsuit has been filed. The first was withdrawn. The paralysis lawsuits claim $7 billion.
