People taking Paxil report all kinds of terrible symptoms, sometimes within hours of stopping Paxil. They can suffer from flu-like nausea, uncontrollable crying, muscle aches, diarrhea, and dizziness. Many patients suffer bizarre and briefly overwhelming electrical sensations that start from the back of their head, similar to a zap sound. Some people feel like their head is being stabbed by many needles. They become disoriented and end up in the emergency room complaining of seizures. Surprisingly, few doctors and even psychiatrists know how to discontinue Paxil effectively. So little is known that researchers aren't exactly sure what causes discontinuation syndrome. It could be that serotonin does more than regular mood. Drugs like Paxil that are metabolized more quickly also cause more problems when patients are trying to discontinue their usage. (MSNBC)
