Eye infections like Fusarium Keratitis are rare. So when the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) gets involved as they did with MoistureLoc by Bausch & Lomb, it is a sure sign that something is terribly wrong. According to the CDC, five kinds of contact lens solution, three of which are made by Bausch & Lomb were used by people suffering from an aggressive Fusarium eye infection.

The CDC received 86 confirmed and 96 suspected fusarium keratitis cases covering 29 states. Nearly all are being tracked back to Bausch & Lomb MoistureLoc and the Greeneville, South Carolina plant.

The MoisutureLoc infections are so severe that at least eight patients have required corneal transplants. We already have been contact by nearly half a dozen patients requiring such a procedure, and thus we suspect that the incidence is much larger than even the CDC knows it to be.

This is not just a USA based problem, because the product was distributed worldwide. Thus, MoistureLoc infectous outbreaks have occurred internationally with the vision harming eye infection, called fusarium keratitis.

The FDA said that the MoistureLoc ReNu recall by Bausch and Lomb is based on the high number of cases compared to the overall market share. ReNu with MoistureLoc was used by 57 percent of the outbreak victims.
