Bausch & Lomb Inc. is in for slower growth from new competition, a weak pipeline, financial troubles, and a recent product withdrawal, ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution.In May 2006 Bausch & Lomb withdrew its ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution from the market, a product that accounted for about $100 million in sales in 2005.
Some of the solution's components, coupled with poor eye care hygiene, make it more susceptible a rare fungus that can potentially cause blindness if not treated promptly. Worldwide, some 300 patients were diagnosed with the disease. The company faces numerous lawsuits related to the outbreak. (Chron)
