A 13-year-old boy suffered severe damage to his vision after using ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution which caused a rare fungus in his eye. That family is now suing Bausch and Lomb, the contact lens solution manufacturer, along with the store that sold it. The parents are also suing the optometrist who examined the teen but failed to diagnose the fungal eye infection problem. The teen suffered scarring on his cornea. His vision is so bad that he cannot even see the food in front of him. Pain is so bad that it feels like something is stabbing him in the eye.
Rey used Renu Moistureloc Contact Lens Solution. Federal disease experts concluded the solution led to an eye fungus, which could lead to blindness. Rey is not blind, but he said his vision rapidly deteriorated. As the fungus developed, Rey suffered more pain, swollen eyes, you could see blood in a tear.
Bausch and Lomb pulled the contact lens solution off the shelves and doctors nationwide threw their supply in the trash. When the family realized the solution may be the problem and took four trips to specialists, the son also stopped using it.
A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control said victims likely got the fungus from places like bathroom countertops. The ReNu with MoistureLoc contact solution was supposed to kill the fungus, but researchers have found it actually helped the bacteria grow. (Kris)
