More Infections Tied to Bausch Contact Cleaner

"An update yesterday from government health authorities on the outbreak of a potentially blinding fungal infection among contact lens users showed a sharp increase in the number of cases involving users of the ReNu brand of lens cleaners made at Bausch & Lomb's Greenville, S.C., factory. The Centers for Disease Control said that it now had 106 confirmed cases of infection with the Fusarium fungus, up 4 from last Friday. But it said that the number linked to ReNu products had jumped to 87, from 54, over the same period. The infections cause severe inflammation of the cornea. The majority of the 93 confirmed infections linked to lens users - 63 percent in yesterday's report - continue to involve Bausch ReNu with MoistureLoc, a line that the company recalled from stores last month."
