191 Reports of Eye Infection Linked to Lens Cleaners

"The number of reports of a rare fungal infection linked to contact lens cleaners has edged up slightly in the last week, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Packages of ReNu MoistureLoc lens cleaner from Bausch & Lomb were removed from a supermarket last month in Amherst, N.Y. The C.D.C. said late yesterday that it had now received 191 reports of eye infections caused by a fungus called Fusarium keratitis, including 86 confirmed cases. That was up from 186 reports and 73 confirmed cases last week."
