Bausch and Lomb has been sued by a number of consumers who have suffered severe ReNu eye infections. ReNu is manufactured by Bausch & Lomb with a principal office in Rochester, New York. ReNu is a contact lens solution that is used to clean soft contact lenses.
On April 13, 2006 Bausch & Lomb warned the public that Renu could cause eye damage. However, plaintiffs believe that Bausch and Lomb should have recalled the product much sooner. Use of ReNu has been linked to a fungal infection of the eye, fusarium keratitis; which is a serious and painful corneal disease caused by a fungal organism.
A Bausch & Lomb class action has been filed that alleges Symptoms including blurred vision, a red and painful eye that does not improve when the contact lenses are removed, increased sensitivity to light and excess of tearing or discharge. Clinically, it is often difficult to differentiate between fungal and bacterial infections. Confirmation may be obtained by a doctor through corneal culture, corneal tissue biopsy or confocal microscopy. Use of this product may cause blindness, other serious eye injury and the necessity of a corneal implant.
