Do You Have a Sanofi Aventis Lawsuit? »
In late January 2006, the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) asked Sanofi-Aventis to include stronger warnings on Ketek based on the three U.S. patients that experienced liver damage, a liver transplant, and death from using Ketek for the short-term.
EMEA requested a precautionary measure, pending the outcome of a full benefit/risk assessment of the product in the context of the ongoing renewal procedure for the marketing authorization. And Sanofi-Aventis replied that the company takes safety matters seriously and the three U.S. patients' experiences with Ketek would not alter the safety profile of Ketek.
