What should my doctor know before I take telithromycin?

 


Tell you healthcare professional if you have:

  • kidney disease
  • liver disease or have had liver problems (jaundice) in the past
  • myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disorder)
  • low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalemia)
  • low levels of magnesium in the blood (hypomagnesemia)
  • irregular heartbeats
  • your or a close family member have a rare heart condition known as congenital prolongation of the QT interval
  • stomach problems (especially colitis) or diarrhea
  • other chronic illness
  • are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast feeding
  • had an unusual or allergic reaction to telithromycin or macrolide antiobiotics (such as erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, or dirithromycin)
  • allergic reactions to foods, dyes, or preservatives


Tell your health care professional and pharmacist about all the medication that you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements and vitamins, and herbal products. Also reveal if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.

These may affect the way Ketek works. These drug(s) might interact with Telithromycin / Ketek:
Alfentanil, Alosetron, Astemizole, Carbamazepine

Certain benzodiazepines: Alprazolam, Diazepam, Midazolam, Triazolam

Some heart medications: Digoxin, Diltiazem, Disopyramide, Dofetilide, Felodipine, Metoprolol, Nifedipine, Procainamide, Quinidine, Verapamil

Medicines that treat fungal or yeast infections: Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Voriconazole Cisapride, Cyclosporine, Donepezil Ergot alkaloid medicines like Ergotamine Lidocaine

Medicines to treat viral infections: Delavirdine, Indinavir, Nevirapine, Ritonavir, Saquinavir Methylprednisolone, Norethindrone, Paricalcitol, Phenytoin, Pimozide Rifampin, Sirolimus

Statin medicines for reducing cholesterol such as: Atorvastatin, Lovastatin, Simvastatin Tacrolimus, Terfenadine, Theophylline, Trimetrexate Zonisamide
