Prescribing Ketek (ketolide acid):
What should my doctor know before I take telithromycin?
Tell you healthcare professional if you have:
- kidney disease
- liver disease or have had liver problems (jaundice) in the past
- myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disorder)
- low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalemia)
- low levels of magnesium in the blood (hypomagnesemia)
- irregular heartbeats
- your or a close family member have a rare heart condition known as congenital prolongation of the QT interval
- stomach problems (especially colitis) or diarrhea
- other chronic illness
- are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- breast feeding
- had an unusual or allergic reaction to telithromycin or macrolide antiobiotics (such as erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, or dirithromycin)
- allergic reactions to foods, dyes, or preservatives
Tell your health care professional and pharmacist about all the medication that you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements and vitamins, and herbal products. Also reveal if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.

Some heart medications: Digoxin, Diltiazem, Disopyramide, Dofetilide, Felodipine, Metoprolol, Nifedipine, Procainamide, Quinidine, Verapamil
Medicines that treat fungal or yeast infections: Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Voriconazole Cisapride, Cyclosporine, Donepezil Ergot alkaloid medicines like Ergotamine Lidocaine
Medicines to treat viral infections: Delavirdine, Indinavir, Nevirapine, Ritonavir, Saquinavir Methylprednisolone, Norethindrone, Paricalcitol, Phenytoin, Pimozide Rifampin, Sirolimus
