Hydroxycut Weight Loss Products and Liver Damage
On May 1, 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert warning the public to stop taking Hydroxycut products. Hydroxycut weight loss products are made by Iovate Health Sciences Inc, of Ontario, Canada and distributed by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc., of Blasdell, New York. Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements marketed for weight-loss such as fat burners, energy-enhancers, low carbohydrate diet aids, and for water loss under Iovate and MuscleTech brand names.
The problems associated with Hydroxycut weight loss supplements are that some consumers who used the products have experienced serious liver damage including the necessity for a liver transplant and liver failure (death). These consumers had no previous health conditions or liver damage prior to ingesting Hydroxycut. Other health problems after using Hydroxycut products included seizures, heart attack, and rhabdomyolysis (muscle damage that leads to kidney failure).

Symptoms of liver damage include jaundice and brown urine. Jaundice is diagnosed when the skin has a yellowish hue and/or the whites of your eyes take on a yellow hue. Other liver damage symptoms are nausea, vomiting, light-colored bowel movements, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.
The FDA is urging that everyone stop taking Hydroxycut products and return them to the place of purchase in order to get your money back. Iovate Health Sciences is conducting a voluntary recall of 14 products. It has more than 750 products sold in more than 70 countries around the world.
