Stop taking Fosamax after 5 years

CBS News Reports that after five years of taking the osteoporosis drug Fosamax, some women will be getting a break. That's not break as in fracture but break as in drug holiday. A U.S. clinical trial shows that women who stop taking Fosamax after five years have no more fracture risk than women who keep on taking the drug.

While this is good news for women if they were indeed taking Fosamax for 5 years, one has to wonder if the greedy pharmaceutical company Merck likes this drug holiday. Usually the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to get better; rather they just as well have you keep taking these drugs for life which equals more profits, happy investors, and CEOs with more money and fringe benefits than is humane.
