Depakote Birth Defects and Side Effects
Depakote
Depakote is a valproic acid that is part of the anticonvulsant class of medications. It can be prescribed to treat a variety of disorders including seizures, mania, and migraine headaches. Additionally, it is sometimes prescribed to treat aggression in children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other conditions that affect learning.
How to Take Depakote
Depakote can be administered in a variety of ways. Generally, the extended release tablets are taken once a day while the other forms including the liquid syrup, delayed release tablet, capsule and sprinkle capsule are taken twice a day.
It is important to take Depakote exactly as prescribed and not to stop taking the drug even if you are feeling well. A sudden decrease in valproic acid can cause a severe and potentially life threatening seizure.

Symptoms of liver damage may include exhaustion, weakness, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting or swelling of the face.
