Multiple Brands of Strollers Recalled
While recalling one million Maclaren strollers may seem like a daunting undertaking, strollers and baby products are recalled frequently.
Does it make you wonder what the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association) actually bases their standards on?
Here are some other brands of strollers that have been recalled, some for the same reason as Maclaren.
- In August 2008, Kennesaw, Georgia-based importer Regal Lager recalled to repair Phil & Ted strollers because of fingertip laceration hazard. About 44,000 Phil & Ted e3 Single Buggy, e3 Twin Buggy and sport v1 Single Buggy Strollers were the subject of the recall.

The baby stroller recall happened because the stroller’s hinge locking mechanism posed a laceration hazard to the user folding and unfolding the strollers. Regal Lager received nine reports from consumers who injured their fingers in the stroller’s hinge locking mechanism. The strollers were sold nationwide from August 2003 through August 2008.
Consumers were requested to stop using the strollers and to contact Regal Lager to receive a free hinge cover repair kit.
Phil & Ted strollers are manufactured in China.
- In December 2008, about 1,600 Phil & Ted Dash Buggy Strollers were voluntarily recalled because the frame handle could fail to latch properly and break, posing a fall hazard to small children. These upscale buggy strollers were sold through various independent juvenile specialty stores and online from July 2008 through September 2008 for around $500.
As of May 1, 2009, Regal Lager, Inc. no longer distributes Phil & Ted.
Some other products that have been recalled:
- 2006/Phil & Ted-baby traveling cot because of choking hazard (manufactured in China).
- 2006/Phil & Teds e3 Strollers with doubles seats because children can touch the rear tires when in the stroller's add-on seat posing an abrasion hazard to children (manufactured in China).
- 2004/Regal Lager-baby “Bjorn” baby carrier because the back support buckle could detach from the shoulder straps, posing a fall hazard to the baby (manufactured in Sweden).
- 2004/Regal Lager Lascal "Buggy Board" stroller attachment because the Buggy Board's red connecting pins can break, causing the board to partially detach from the stroller or carriage, posing a fall hazard to the user (manufactured in Sweden).
