Construction Site Accident Kills Pennsylvania Man

A 60-year-old Wilkes-Barre man working at the construction site for the future Sears distribution center was killed Monday when he was struck by a van driven by a co-worker.

The electrician was struck by the van as it was backing up on the east side of the building's frame. By the time the driver realized what was happening, the man was already pinned underneath the vehicle.

Construction workers pulled the man's body out from under the van and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

The death was deemed an accident and said charges would not be filed against the driver, who was a close friend of the victim.

Representatives of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which investigates workplace deaths and accidents, have been notified.
