A 20-year-old man was struck in the head with a backhoe and died instantly from the force. The backhoe swung around and struck the man in the head, sending him to the bottom of the trench. The backhoe then fell over sideways into the trench, temporarily trapping other construction workers who managed to crawl out without life-threatening injuries.

The workers were working on the Pinellas County sewer pipeline project.
