Maryland Car Seat Laws Maryland requires that all children under age 6 regardless of weight or who weigh less than 40 pounds regardless of age, must ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat. Maryland car seat law further states that the car seat must fit the child by age, height, and weight and the child must be secured in the seat and vehicle according to instructions of the vehicle and car seat manufacturers.
