Yasmin is a prescription birth control pill that prevents ovulation and creates changes in the body in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The generic name for Yasmin is Ocella. Yasmin is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. The FDA has approved Yasmin as an oral contraceptive. For women who are over the age of 14 and taking Yasmin as an oral contraceptive, the drug can also be prescribed to treat moderate acne or the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Despite common misconceptions, the FDA has not approved Yasmin to treat mild acne or premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
How is Yasmin Taken?
Yasmin is taken orally once a day. There are 28 pills in each packet. One pill is taken per day and each pill should be taken at the same time of day. Missed doses can significantly reduce the efficacy of the medication.
Are There any Yasmin Side Effects?
Yes, there are several potential Yasmin side effects. The side effects range from mild things such as headaches and breakthrough bleeding to serious medical conditions such as strokes, heart attacks, depression and blood clots. A Yasmin user who experiences chest pain, shortness of breath, leg pain, severe headaches, changes in vision, breast lumps, stomach pain, jaundice, extreme mood swings or lethargy should immediately contact her physician as these could be signs of a serious and potentially fatal side effect.
What Should Yasmin Users Expect From Their Prescribing Doctors and Bayer?
Women taking Yaz or Yasmin birth control should expect that their doctor will thoroughly review their medical history including previous and chronic health conditions, the risks of certain lifestyle choices such as smoking and weight gain and the symptoms which might indicate that a patient is suffering from a serious side effect that requires immediate medical attention.
Every Yasmin user has to weigh the potential benefits of the drug against the potential for serious risks. Patients are dependent upon the information provided both by the drug manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, and their individual physicians to make this important personal decision.
If either Bayer or a woman’s physicians fails to provide a patient with the information required to make the decision and the woman is injured by Yasmin then Bayer or the doctor may be liable for the injuries. An experienced defective drug attorney can help Yasmin users determine if anyone is responsible for their injuries. Therefore, if you or a loved one has been affected by Yasmin use, please do not hestitate to contact an attorney for a free, no obligation consultation.
