The American Association of Tissue Banks ensures that tissue donor banks perform activities in a professional and consistent manner while adhering to the quality standards that the AATB set forth in 1986. Tissue bank accreditation is based on how the tissue donor banks manage their operations as they pertain to retrieval, processing, storage, and/or distribution of tissue for tissue transplants.

The tissue bank association also offers a toll-free-telephone service to help locate and provide safe tissue transplants to hospitals and doctors for musculoskeletal bones and skin grafts to treat burn patients.

The United Network for Organ Sharing helps make sure that donated organs are placed equitably. At any given time, there are over 90,000 people waiting for organ and tissue transplants.
