On February 3, 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered Biomedical Tissue Services, Ltd., a human tissue-recovery firm based in Fort Lee, New Jersey, to immediately cease all manufacturing operations.
Biomedical Tissue Services was cited with "serious and widespread deficiencies" in their manufacturing practices, which the FDA called an immediate danger to public health.

The CEO and Director of Operations of Biomedical Tissue Services in Fort Lee, New Jersey came into six or more New York funeral homes that for a price looked the other way while the CEO, a former dentist extracted bone, teeth, tendons, and skin from corpses without the consent of relatives. Fake medical records were created. Then the tissue was sold again. Recipients of these tissues have no idea who their bones, teeth, tendons, and skin are from and whether or not they were diseased or brittle with age.
