Contacting PENNDOT and the Pennsylvania State Police

While we all know PENNDOT and the State Police serve the public, but many do not have direct contact information for these bureaus. So, here is a brief rundown of the commonly used contact numbers for them.

The most commonly used contact info is as follows:

The most frequently used number for PENNDOT is the driver’s licenses’ customer service center. The number is toll free and is 1-800-932-4600. (This is also the general customer service number for all inquiries.) However, there are other customer service numbers availlable including numbers for out of state callers 1-717-412-5300; hearing impaired callers in state 1-800-228-0676; and hearing impaired callers out of state 1-717-412-5380 Also listed on the website are numbers for Pennsylvania Vehicle Emissions Inspection and Maintenance Program 1-800-265-0921 and for Reporting Roadway Concerns 1-800-FIX-ROAD.

Since we are in the computer age, email is also a common way to contact different departments of PENNDOT. In order to email PENNDOT, you will need to fill out the onscreen forms provided at PENNDOT’s website. In particular, there are three general heading categories where you can email. These categories include Driver's License, Learner's Permit, or Photo ID Card Questions; Motor Vehicle Questions; and Apportioned Registration Questions. Keep in mind, responses may take up to two business days as emailed questions, concerns, and queries are responded in the order in which they are received.

Now, some may wish to forgo emailing PENNDOT and instead send correspondence via the postal system. This is not a problem as PENNDOT readily accepts and responds to hard copy correspondence. The specific addresses to contact PENNDOT are as follows:

Curiously, the website does not list the physical addresses for Driver’s Licensing Forms and Motor Vehicle Forms. Instead, it refers the inquisitive to examine the actual form for the addresses.
