It has been said that the internet puts access to the world's information at your fingertips. In other words, every conceivable amount of information on virtually any subject can be accessed within seconds. So, if you are looking for information on the subject of traffic and transportation, you can quickly discover what you wish to find simply by pulling up the homepage of a number of state and federal agencies. Of course, in order to properly pinpoint a particularly subject in the search, it is critical to know what each specific agency does. In order to facilitate this goal, a brief overview of five very important agencies is provided herein.
BTS.gov – This is the homepage for the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and it provides significant information on various traffic statistics. This information is derived via data collection, analysis, and reporting. The ultimate goal of this information is to provide increased efficiency in transportation monitoring. The end result of this could be a reduction in traffic accidents, emissions, and road congestion.
AutoSafety.org – The Center for Auto Safety's website is an excellent resource for those who wish to examine or lodge grievances in the auto world. Common subjects that this service covers include lemon laws, airbag safety, defective autos, common complaints currently "popular" in the auto world, and many other topics. Now, if such a description infers the site is rife with negativity, this would be an inaccurate assessment. In reality, it is a fine resource that keeps consumers up to date on important information that allows them to operate their vehicles in a safe manner.
NHTSA.gov – The self stated goal of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is to "save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle related crashes". The way it seeks to promote this goal is by providing consumer information, traffic safety statistics, publishing reports and analysis, and examining laws and regulations. From this, a tremendous resource is provided for those looking for accurate information of risk assessment and safety threats that driver's may face.
DOT.state.pa.us – This is the official website of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Within its electronic pages, virtually all statistics and information related to traffic and transportation within the state of Pennsylvania can be accessed. This is also the site for any information regarding driver's licenses and vehicle registration. Traffic laws and regulations are archived in this site as well.
CPSC.gov – This is the homepage to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. It is an excellent resource for product safety standards, recalls, and potentially unsafe products. Often, when the word "product" it used, people do not associate it with their vehicle. However, a vehicle is most definitely a consumer product and any issue of product safety associated with a vehicle will be covered on this site.
