IBM employees exposed to asbestos and other chemicals get cancer
Former IBM employees who worked mostly in manufacturing computer and component parts believe they were exposed to a variety of chemicals -- including trichloroethylene (TCE), which has been phased out. TCE, an organic solvent that looks like water and has a sweet odor like chloroform, is a suspected carcinogen. Former employees and retirees say not enough precautions were taken to limit exposure. Other hazards in the industry include ionizing radiation, asbestos, arsenic, and sulfuric acid mist. (Acorn Asbestos Article)
