Michael L. Barbiero
Michael L. Barbiero joined Anapol Schwartz in 2003 and practices in the civil litigation department. He concentrates his practice in wrongful death and catastrophic injuries. He also serves as a Certified Arbitrator for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Compulsory Arbitration Program.
Prior to joining Anapol Schwartz, Mr. Barbiero served as Law Clerk for the Honorable Alex Bonavitacola, President Judge in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He was also an attorney with Deasey, Mahoney & Bender, Ltd. in Philadelphia. In addition to his trial experience, Michael has successfully argued and/or briefed cases before the Delaware Supreme Court as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
In the community, Michael volunteers as a Youth Aid Panel Member, youth program soccer and T-Ball coach, as well as volunteered for Town Watch. Michael was appointed by the Abington Township Board of Commissioners to the Abington Industrial Development Authority and served from August, 2006 to December 2008. Michael also holds the position of Chairman of the Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee and in May, 2008, the Committee honored him with the Democrat of the Year Award.
Mr. Barbiero was named a Pennsylvania "Rising Star Super Lawyer" in the December 2008 edition of Philadelphia magazine which recognizes the top 2.5 percent of attorneys 40 years old or younger in the state of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Barbiero is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Philadelphia Bar Associations, as well as the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Associations. He is also a member of the Justinian Society of Lawyers. In January, 2007, Michael was appointed to the Advisory Panel of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Barbiero earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University. He received his law degree from Widener University School of Law. During law school, Mr. Barbiero participated in Temple University School of Law's Rome, Italy Summer Session program, concentrating in International Law and the European Union. Mr. Barbiero also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Richard S. Gebelein in the Superior Court of Delaware during the Spring of 1997. In addition, he also served as a certified intern with the Pennsylvania Criminal Defense Clinic in the Spring of 1998. He was inducted into the Moot Court Honor Society and Phi Delta Phi, Harrington Inn, Honor Chapter, as well as named in Who's Who, American Law Students, 18th Edition, 1999; Continental Who's Who 2006-07; and the Cambridge Who's Who 2008/2009 Registry.
