Proving Damages in Personal Injury and Death Cases

PHILADELPHIA, PA - January 3, 2005 - Anapol Schwartz Weiss Cohan Feldman and Smalley, P.C. (Anapol Schwartz) attorney Howard J. Levin recently spoke at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's conference on civil litigation.  The conference, entitled "Proving Damages in Personal Injury and Death Cases," focused on the damage component of the personal injury program.  Mr. Levin spoke on maximizing damages for the loss of life's pleasures, embarrassment, humiliation, scarring, disfigurement and loss of consortium losses.

The program highlighted what attorneys need to understand about evaluating damages before taking a case.  It also provided information on how to use experts and other tools to prove damages, when it is possible to recover punitive and other non-compensatory damages, how insurance issues affect damages recovery and how to best present damages evidence to the fact finder.

Mr. Levin, a shareholder at Anapol Schwartz, concentrates his practice in medical, attorney and other professional malpractice, products liability and other personal injury matters.  He has extensive trial experience in both state and federal courts, has handled many cases on appeal, and served as Liaison Counsel for the Orthopedic Bone Screw Litigation.  A frequent lecturer on personal injury matters, Mr. Levin is a member of the State Civil Judicial Procedure Committee and the Medico-Legal Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association.  He has been appointed as a judge pro temp for the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia.  He is a member of the American and Philadelphia Bar Associations, as well as the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Associations.

In 1978, Mr. Levin earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, and received his law degree in 1981 from Villanova University School of Law.  He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania.
